This website prototype was a partner project with the goal of providing beginners and intermediate learners with information and visuals on the basics of color theory. By interactively providing information, COLR THRY reinforces learning while making it fun! Other websites about color theory offered basic instruction, and some even had interactive color wheels or palettes. Most of them lacked a quiz function, solid design, interesting ways to learn, and in-depth information. Our desire was to combine all of these features into one well-designed site!
The visual style is a clean, mostly white palette that allows the images and selected color areas to pop. Each page contains an organic color gradient that highlights the title and fades into the background. Futura was used as the title and logo typeface with Avenir Next as the body text. Hover functions, scroll features, and image overlays were used as interactive functions across each page.
During the first phase, mood boards and basic functions were mapped out and solidified. We then implemented our ideas and created detailed page designs and wireframes. The final phase of this project involved fine-tuning the interactive functions and getting peer reviews and user testing.
Collaboratively, my partner and I worked on the information gathering and design theme. Areas I designed more exclusively were the footer, Color 201, and Brief History of Color pages. It can be difficult to navigate group projects in art and design classes, but this assignment flowed effectively and favorably. Figma was used for the entirety of the project.
