DINE highlights family favorite recipes through a custom typeface, illustration, layout, and cover design. This piece was developed from a desire to combine these elements to investigate family, generational tradition, and a love of spending time in the kitchen. Influenced by a fondness for book design and physically printed matter, this project allowed me to create my own version of a family cookbook. This body of work also includes two posters that further the font and book design, as well as four versions of recipe cards pulled from those in the book for viewers to take with them to spread the love of cooking with their own families.
I find that acts of creation, no matter how small, are an opportunity to reflect on God as the ultimate Creator. Cooking and baking are also often linked to a sense of community and belonging in my life. I see times of gathering to make and eat food with others to be meaningful and fulfilling, providing opportunities to fellowship with the people that I love most. Through these simple recipes, I hope the viewers can also see the meaning and connection that can come from gathering together in the kitchen.
