Typography

Using information from the previous year, I created a mock booklet for the 2023 TypeCon conference. The aim of this project was to format and manage a large amount of typographic information while maintaining a superior visual identity created for the conference. Posters designed in a previous assignment for the event determined the visual path that the booklet would take. Focusing on the organization of text, a strong hierarchy was laid out, taking care to consider every word as a typographical design object. The final challenge of this project was to print out and assemble a superb copy of the booklet. The printing process was time-consuming but constructive in learning what goes into the creation of a solid piece of analog print.

The color scheme of the booklet was seafoam green with the secondary color being a dusty violet, both of varying shades throughout the spreads. Text was emphasized through the use of differing weights and highlights. Profile images were altered with a halftone screen texture and a duotone effect. I used the typeface family Myriad Variable Concept. The first-page spread and the floorplan map were two of the most enjoyable areas to design and some of the more successful pages of the book. The custom TypeCon text also pairs well with the chosen typeface while adding a more organic feel to the overall booklet design.
